A man demanded $20,000 at a Spring Lake Park bank, refused to leave when denied and made statements about a mask and gun that left employees fearing he would rob or harm them, according to charges.
Joshua Cole Schallock, 20, of Ramsey, faces charges of attempted second-degree aggravated robbery, attempted simple robbery and threats of violence-reckless disregard risk. The charges were filed Friday, August 14, in Anoka County District Court.
According to the complaint, officers responded to a hold-up alarm at the Wells Fargo Bank in Spring Lake Park on August 12. Bank staff told police that Schallock entered the bank and asked to withdraw $20,000, but he did not have an account or identification. When employees told him he could not withdraw the money, Schallock said he would get the money himself, would not leave until he got it and would come back to get it.

Staff reported that Schallock made comments about a mask and gun, and said he would not come back with those to get the money. Employees told officers these statements made them fearful that Schallock was indirectly threatening to rob the bank or harm them. He refused repeated requests to leave.
Officers arrived and escorted Schallock from the bank. During the escort, they saw a gun in his waistband and seized it. Schallock told officers the gun was not loaded, but the magazine contained multiple rounds. The firearm was identified as a black Glock.
Schallock told officers he had an account at the bank and that someone had taken his money. He said he was not trying to scare anyone and needed his money. He also told employees and officers that law enforcement knew about the situation, would be meeting him there and that 911 had called him. Both employees and officers noted that Schallock was not making much sense during and after the incident.
The complaint notes that Schallock has pending charges in Hennepin County for carrying a firearm in a public place without a permit, as well as pending DWI and underage consumption charges in Ramsey County.
