Evidence collected included numerous pieces of a dark grey vehicle found at the crash site, which were identified as parts from a 2016-2019 Toyota Rav4. Traffic cameras captured a dark Toyota Rav4 near the crash site both before and after the incident, showing the vehicle’s movements leading up to the crash. The footage indicated that the vehicle had sustained damage consistent with the crash.
On the same day as the crash, law enforcement officers found a gray 2017 Toyota Rav4 in a parking lot in Ramsey, which matched the description of the suspect vehicle. Freeman was found sleeping in the back of the vehicle, which had damage consistent with the crash. During a post-Miranda statement, Freeman admitted to driving the vehicle but claimed he did not crash into anything. He suggested that the vehicle might have been stolen, a claim he made only after being questioned about the damage.
Freeman is currently in custody at the hospital. A court date has not yet been set.
