A suspect in another vehicle shot a woman driving northbound on University Ave. NE in Fridley on Saturday night, leaving her hospitalized in critical but stable condition, authorities say.
The shooting happened just after 9 p.m. on May 9 in the northbound lanes of University Ave. NE, south of 53rd Ave. N.
Officers at the scene found the woman had been shot in the neck and was driving the SUV when the shooting happened. She left the roadway and came to a stop near the on-ramp to eastbound Interstate 694, as seen in a still image taken from MnDOT traffic camera at the time.
Witnesses told officers the suspect was in a black SUV that continued northbound after the shooting.
A juvenile girl who was also in the victim’s SUV was not injured, authorities confirmed, and paramedics transported the injured woman to a local hospital.
The Fridley Police Department, Columbia Heights Police Department, Minnesota State Patrol and Allina EMS responded to the scene. Officers blocked traffic from 53rd to 57th Ave. N. while a K9 team searched the area for shell casings and other evidence.
No arrests have been made as of publication. The Fridley Police Department, Minnesota State Patrol and Anoka County Sheriff’s Office are investigating.
