Woman Fights Off Attacker on Burnsville Park Trail

Burnsville police are investigating a reported assault on New Year’s Day along a park trail near Crystal Lake West.
A Burnsville Police Department spokesperson says officers were called to the area near 11 Crystal Lake West at about 8:15 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2026, after a woman reported she had been assaulted while walking on a trail.
Police say the woman told investigators she was approached from behind by an unknown man.

The suspect was described as a light-skinned black male, about 5’7” and believed to be in his 30s, wearing dark-colored clothing and a grey vest. The woman reported that the man placed his hand over her mouth and told her he had a weapon. She was able to fight off the suspect, get away, return home safely and call 911.

Authorities said no arrests have been made and the incident remains under investigation. As a precaution, officer presence and park patrols have been increased in nearby parks and surrounding neighborhoods while investigators continue to work the case.
Police are asking people in the area to remain alert and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement.
