St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office deputies say a snowmobile crashed while negotiating a sharp corner, leaving the passenger seriously injured. Authorities said the driver didn’t require medical care.
The injured passenger, a 37-year-old woman from the Duluth area, had to be transported by medical sled a considerable distance from the trail to Highway 44, where a Life Link III Air Medical helicopter was waiting.

Air medical personnel then flew the woman to a hospital in Duluth for treatment of serious injuries, the sheriff’s office said. Video provided by the sheriff’s office showed the Life Link helicopter departing the scene with the injured snowmobiler on board.
Highway 44 near the scene was closed for more than an hour while crews coordinated the air medical landing and transport.
North Star Township EMS, Pequaywan Township EMS, Mayo Ambulance and the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Rescue Squad assisted at the scene.
