Suspect Charged Months After Minneapolis Shooting Injured Man

A Minneapolis man is charged after prosecutors say he aided another man in a daytime shooting that left the victim with multiple gunshot wounds.
The shooting happened around 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, 2025, near the 300 block of Clifton Avenue in Minneapolis, according to a criminal complaint.
Andrew Jonathan Townsend, 30, was charged this week with second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon causing substantial bodily harm. The charge carries a maximum penalty of up to 10 years in prison if convicted.

According to the complaint, officers arrived and found an adult male victim on the ground suffering from several gunshot wounds. The victim, who lives nearby, was transported to the hospital where medical staff treated gunshot injuries to both legs and his abdomen.
Investigators say the victim told officers he had just returned home and parked outside his building when two men approached and began assaulting him while he sat inside his vehicle. The victim reported fighting with the men before a second man allegedly approached and fired multiple shots, striking him several times.

Witnesses in the area reported hearing rapid gunfire. One witness told investigators the shots sounded consistent with an automatic handgun.
Prosecutors allege Townsend aided and abetted the assault by participating in the attack alongside the man investigators say fired the shots. Court records show Townsend has a pending prohibited person in possession of a firearm case with an active warrant, and authorities say his current whereabouts remain unknown.
A judge issued a warrant and set initial bail at $100,000 with conditions including no contact with the victim and no possession of weapons.
