Saint Paul police shot and wounded a suspect Sunday after officers say he fled on foot from a recently stolen vehicle and pointed a handgun at them on an interstate ramp.
The incident occurred around 3:15 p.m. Dec. 21, on the ramp to westbound Interstate 94 from northbound Highway 52. According to the Saint Paul Police Department, officers were alerted when General Motors notified police that a vehicle stolen in Minneapolis was being driven toward Saint Paul on I-94.

Officers tracked the vehicle as it moved through the area. General Motors remotely slowed and disabled the vehicle, bringing it to a stop on the westbound I-94 ramp from Highway 52. After the vehicle stopped, both the driver and a passenger fled on foot, police said.
A SPPD spokesperson says as officers chased the driver on foot, the man pulled out a handgun and pointed it at officers. An officer fired, striking the suspect once in the thigh. Officers then took the suspect into custody and a tourniquet was applied by officers at the scene. The suspect, who has not yet been formally charged nor identified, was transported to Regions Hospital with a non-life-threatening wound.
The female passenger was located and taken into custody a short time later. Police said the passenger and all officers involved were uninjured. No bystanders were hurt.
