1 Dead After Truck, SUV Collide in Winsted Township

One person was killed in a two-vehicle crash involving a truck Tuesday morning in McLeod County.

The crash happened at 8:38 a.m. on Jan. 6 when a straight truck traveling eastbound on Highway 7 near Cable Avenue collided with a westbound SUV at the intersection in Winsted Township.

The Minnesota State Patrol said the roadway was snow- and ice-covered at the time of the crash.

The driver of the SUV, Melinda G. Koosman, 63, of Buffalo, died at the scene. She was driving a 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe. The State Patrol reported that she was wearing a seatbelt and that the vehicle’s airbags deployed.

The other vehicle involved was a 2022 Freightliner straight truck driven by a 49-year-old man from Oakdale. He was not injured and did not require medical treatment. The State Patrol said he was wearing a seatbelt and alcohol was not involved.

No additional vehicles were involved in the crash. Winsted Police Department, McLeod County Sheriff’s Office and Lester Prairie Fire assisted at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
