The incident happened around 12:30 a.m. on the 3000 block of 5th Avenue South, after officers were dispatched to the area after a 911 caller reported a neighbor had pointed a gun as his mother.
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said officers arrived on the scene minutes later. As officers approached the suspect’s apartment, he emerged holding a gun in his right hand. Officers gave multiple commands to drop the gun but the suspect did not comply.
One officer fired two rounds, a department spokesperson said.
The suspect was taken into custody and a black handgun was recovered from the scene. He has been booked into the Hennepin County Jail and not yet formally charged.
