Motorcycle Rider Dies After Crash In Savage

A 54-year-old man died Thursday after his motorcycle and a car collided at a busy intersection in Savage, according to the State Patrol.

David Lawrence Sampson, of Prior Lake, died after his 1999 Victory motorcycle and a Hyundai Elantra collided around 1:48 p.m. at the intersection of southbound Highway 13 and McColl Drive.

According to the State Patrol, Sampson was heading south on Highway 13 and the Hyundai was being driven eastbound on McColl Drive when the crash occurred in the intersection. No additional details have been released about what led up to the collision.

The driver of the Hyundai, identified as a 19-year-old woman from Shakopee, was not injured. She was wearing a seat belt and showed no signs of impairment, troopers said.

Sampson was not wearing a helmet, according to the crash report.

Authorities have not said whether speed or other contributing factors played a role. The road was dry at the time of the crash and the Minnesota State Patrol is investigating.
