Police say a man shot Wednesday evening has died, marking the fifth homicide in Minneapolis within a span of just 20 hours.
Officers responded around 7:45 p.m. to the 3000 block of 15th Avenue South after a ShotSpotter activation indicated gunfire in the area.
Police located a man in his 50s suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds. He was taken to Hennepin Healthcare, where he died.
Investigators are working to determine if this case is linked to the two other fatal shootings that occurred just hours prior. Based on early information, authorities do not believe any of the shootings were random.
PREVIOUSLY Wave of Violence Grips Minneapolis as 5 Shot Dead
Just hours before, Mayor Jacob Frey and Chief O’Hara both spoke at a press conference, expressing outrage over the stretch of violence.
Police Chief Brian O’Hara acknowledged the cycle of shootings, calling them “infuriating” and highlighting their toll on families and neighborhoods. O’Hara said the department has increased patrols and is working with community leaders to formulate immediate and long-term responses. “Each individual act causes immense grief and tears families apart,” he said. “We must confront this head-on—and together.”
