When officers arrived, they encountered two men outside a white SUV on the shoulder of the freeway. One man, later identified as the victim, motioned to officers for help. The second man, wearing all black clothing, ran back toward the driver’s seat of the vehicle. He was taken into custody and identified as Mohamed.
Officers located a black Glock model 17 Gen 5 concealed behind an electrical box along the grassy ditch near the roadway. An officer ran the serial number and confirmed the firearm was stolen. While clearing the weapon to make it safe, officers found a spent casing jammed inside the gun.
The victim told officers Mohamed is an acquaintance and the brother of a friend. He said he picked Mohamed up earlier in Bloomington near 82nd Street and was planning to drop him off in the Cedar-Riverside area. The victim said an argument began after he noticed Mohamed, who he said was on probation, was carrying a firearm. He also told officers he suspected Mohamed was under the influence.

According to the complaint, the conversation became emotional and escalated. The victim said Mohamed drew the firearm, manipulated the slide and placed the gun against his face. A physical struggle followed, first inside the vehicle and then outside on the shoulder of the freeway.
The victim told officers the gun discharged while the two were grappling on the ground. He also reported being struck with the firearm and thrown into a barrier along the freeway shoulder, causing him to hit his head. Officers noted the victim had an apparent head injury.
Investigators say surveillance footage shows Mohamed fleeing the scene and concealing the firearm behind a pole, where officers later recovered it.
Mohamed is charged with receiving stolen property involving a firearm, a felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a $100,000 fine, and reckless discharge of a firearm within a municipality, a felony punishable by up to five years in prison.
Mohamed remains in custody. A judge ordered him held on $20,000 bail with conditions. Jail records show he was booked into the Hennepin County Jail on the night of Dec. 26 and was set to make his next court appearance on Dec. 31, 2025.
