Minneapolis Man Avoids Prison in 2 Sex Crime Cases
A Minneapolis man will avoid prison time after being sentenced for two separate sexual assault cases, including one involving a 15-year-old girl.
Abdimahat Bille Mohamed, 28, received a 36-month “stayed” prison sentence with five years of probation for a 2017 case. He and two unidentified men sexually assaulted a teenager at gunpoint after she was picked up under false pretenses.

That case stemmed stemmed from an incident on Dec. 12, 2017, when the 15-year-old victim contacted Mohamed through Snapchat asking for a ride. Mohamed picked her up, but instead took her to a Minneapolis location where she was threatened with a silver revolver and forced to perform sexual acts on multiple men. DNA from the victim’s body later matched Mohamed and charges were filed, with forensic confirmation in 2024.
As part of a plea deal, Mohamed admitted in April 2025 to third-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a victim aged 13 to 15. The remaining charges, including first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a weapon, were dismissed. Mohamed was sentenced to 364 days in jail and was placed on probation for five years. He received credit for the full 364 days already served. A three-year prison sentence was “stayed,” meaning that if he complies with the terms of his probation, Mohamed will not have to serve the time in prison.

In the second case, Mohamed was charged after a May 30, 2024 incident involving a woman he had connected with on Snapchat. According to the complaint, Mohamed drove the woman and her sister to his Minneapolis apartment, where he then forced the woman into a bedroom, locked the door and sexually assaulted her. The victim disclosed that Mohamed threatened to shoot her or her sister if she refused.
The sister told police she walked in and saw Mohamed on top of the woman with his genitals exposed. When she fled and called 911, Mohamed allegedly locked the door behind her. The woman was found with visible bruises and later told paramedics she had been raped and strangled. While in custody for that case, Mohamed also assaulted two law enforcement officers by spitting on them.
Mohamed pleaded guilty in that case to a reduced charge of fifth-degree criminal sexual conduct involving non-consensual penetration. Additional charges of first-degree criminal sexual conduct involving threats of great bodily harm were dismissed as part of the plea deal. He was sentenced on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, to 14 months in prison, stayed for one day, and placed on probation for one day. He received credit for the time he had already served in jail.
As part of the sentence, Mohamed must register as a sex offender, complete a sex offender treatment program, maintain employment and have no contact with minors. If he violates those terms, his prison term could then be imposed.
