A man was killed Sunday evening when his SUV was struck by a speeding driver who reportedly ran a red light in Saint Paul.
Initial information indicates that the driver of a silver sedan had been westbound on Arlington Avenue West at a high rate of speed when he failed to stop for a red light and collided with a black SUV that was southbound on Dale Street.
The impact pushed the SUV roughly 40 yards and left its adult male driver trapped inside. Firefighters extricated the man from the vehicle, but he was later pronounced deceased. Authorities have not yet released his identity.
The driver of the silver sedan was taken to Regions Hospital with injuries that were described as not life-threatening. Police say alcohol may have been a factor in the crash and investigators are pursuing a warrant to obtain a blood sample from the suspect driver.
Investigation into the crash remains active and the identities of those involved are expected to be released within the coming days.
