Driver Arrested After Fatal Pedestrian Crash in Saint Paul

A man died Tuesday evening in Saint Paul after being struck by a driver.

Authorities say the crash happened shortly before 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of Front Avenue and Grotto Street North.

Officers arriving at the scene found an adult male lying in the street with severe head injuries. Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene.

According to investigators, the driver made a U-turn after hitting the man and was located a short distance from the crash scene. The adult male driver was taken into custody on suspicion of criminal vehicular homicide. Investigators are preparing the case for review by the Ramsey County Attorney’s Office.

Front Avenue remained closed late into the evening as investigators processed the scene and collected evidence.

A Saint Paul Police spokesperson said the department’s Traffic and Pedestrian Safety Unit is leading the investigation. Officials have not released additional details about what led up to the crash, and the case remains active.
