Goodhue Co. Deputy Shoots Man After Crash in Red Wing

RED WING—Just before 1 p.m., a deputy with the Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office reported a male driver crashed into a power pole near the marina at Bay Point Park and was walking away from the vehicle.

Multiple 911 callers also reported the initial crash. A short time later, the man was reported to be suicidal and was "attacking" an officer on scene in the parking lot.

The officer requested backup immediately and reported shots were fired at the suspect, who was struck multiple times.

The man was "down" and said to be bleeding heavily, but conscious and breathing at the scene.

An ambulance transported the man to the hospital and dispatchers reported the man had six gunshot wounds: three to the shoulder and three to the abdomen.

The officer was reported to have an isolated foot injury and was also transported by EMS. A crew with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension was at the scene and investigating the shooting, which is standard procedure for use-of-force incidents in the state.
