The victim was stabilized in a neck brace and was being prepared for transfer to another hospital for a higher level of care.
The victim told the officer he had been sleeping in a bedroom at a house when Troy Aron Johnson and another person entered the room. The victim said he was pulled off the bed by both people and then punched and kicked in the face multiple times. He also reported being bitten. The victim said he managed to leave the house and went to a friend’s home, where the friend then drove him to the hospital. The officer noted the victim’s feet were very dirty, consistent with walking outside.
The officer contacted the friend, who confirmed the victim arrived at his house injured and said he had been attacked. The friend then drove the victim to the hospital. Officers later obtained a search warrant for the house where the assault reportedly happened. During the search, officers found a blanket and sheets with possible blood on the bed and possible blood on the living room floor, which they photographed. No items were seized.
Officers then went to an address for Troy Aron Johnson a few blocks away and arrested him. Both Johnson and the other person were taken to the police department for questioning. During an interview, the other person stated that Johnson had come to the house to say goodbye before she left for treatment. She said Johnson asked if the victim was there, and after she pointed to the bedroom, Johnson went in and a fight broke out. She said her only involvement was trying to break up the fight.
Another person at the house told officers she was aware of the incident but arrived after it occurred. She also stated there was a history of the victim assaulting and threatening the other person involved, which she believed may have played a role in what happened.
Johnson told officers the victim attacked him first, saying the victim put a finger in his eye and knocked out his front top teeth, according to the complaint. An officer photographed hemorrhaging in one of his eyes, scratches near the eye and the missing teeth. Johnson said the other person had no involvement.
