Alcohol Suspected in Motorcycle Crash That Severely Injured Newport Woman

A woman was rushed to Regions Hospital with life-threatening injuries after being thrown from a motorcycle during a crash on northbound Highway 61 in Saint Paul Park Sunday night.
The driver of the motorcycle was later arrested and booked into the Washington County Jail for criminal vehicular operation.

The crash happened around 6:54 p.m. near the northbound exit ramp to 70th Street South. According to initial information from the State Patrol, a 2002 Harley Davidson Road King and a 2016 Land Rover LR4 were both traveling north when the vehicles made contact. The passenger on the motorcycle, identified as 60-year-old Kimberly Ann Robinson, of Newport, was ejected and critically injured. She was not wearing a helmet, the Patrol said.
The motorcycle driver, 70-year-old Lonnie William Cory, of Inver Grove Heights, was not injured and was also not wearing a helmet. Cory allegedly left the scene of the crash and was arrested at his home in Inver Grove Heights around 8:30 p.m., roughly 90 minutes later. The State Patrol reported alcohol involvement and Cory was booked into the Washington County Jail shortly before midnight, held on a pending charge of criminal vehicular operation causing great bodily harm with a blood alcohol concentration of .08 or more.

The Land Rover was driven by a 62-year-old Florida man. He and his passenger were both wearing seatbelts and were not injured. Neither showed signs of impairment, the Patrol said, and road conditions were reported as dry.
Cottage Grove police, deputies with the Washington County Sheriff's Office, the Cottage Grove Fire Department and the Saint Paul Park Fire Department all responded.
