Initial information indicates the motorcyclist, 62-year-old Robert Kendall Sheehan of Epping, North Dakota, was traveling south on County Road 7 when he crossed into the northbound lane and struck a 2012 Chevrolet Impala head-on. The Impala was driven by a 20-year-old man from Cologne.

Sheehan was not wearing a helmet and died at the scene despite life-saving efforts by emergency responders. Authorities say alcohol may have been a factor.

Deputies were assisted by the Minnesota State Patrol, Belle Plaine Fire Department, Ridgeview Ambulance and Mayo Air Ambulance. The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office, State Patrol and the Hennepin County Medical Examiner.
