When they arrived, deputies determined the driver of a 2006 Honda Element had been traveling east on County Road E and began to enter northbound onto the highway.
The driver—identified as Paul D. Paulson, of Houlton, Wisc.—lost control, entered the east ditch and rolled. He was extricated from the vehicle and taken by ambulance to Regions Hospital in Saint Paul. Officials said he was wearing a seatbelt.
Paulson died Saturday, Oct. 25 at Regions Hospital from injuries sustained in the crash, the sheriff’s office said in a media release. The St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Wisconsin State Patrol, St. Joseph Fire Department, Somerset Fire Department and Lakeview Ambulance.
This was the ninth traffic fatality recorded in St. Croix County so far in 2025, the sheriff’s office said.
