80-Year-Old Woman Dies in Head-On Crash Near Park Rapids

A woman died and another driver was injured after a two-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon in Hubbard County.

The crash happened around 12:10 p.m. Jan. 27 at the intersection of Highway 34 and County Road 11 in Henrietta Township, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Troopers said a 2005 Buick LeSabre was being driven eastbound on Highway 34 near Evening Drive when the drive crossed the center line, lost control and collided head-on with a westbound 2007 Chevy Colorado. Road conditions were wet at the time of the crash.

The driver of the Buick, 80-year-old Nancy Irene Bamlet, of Nevis, died at the scene. Authorities reported she was wearing a seat belt and alcohol was not suspected.

The driver of the Chevy, 85-year-old Noel Francis Sletten, of Park Rapids, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Sanford Health Fargo for treatment. He was also reported to have been wearing a seat belt and alcohol was not suspected.

Both vehicles sustained significant damage and airbags deployed in each.

The Hubbard County Sheriff's Office assisted at the scene along with Park Fire and North Ambulance. The Minnesota State Patrol handled the crash investigation.
