7-Year-Old in Critical Condition After Being Hit by Driver in Saint Paul

A 7-year-old girl was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries Wednesday night after being struck by a driver on Saint Paul’s East Side, according to police.
Officers were called to the intersection of White Bear Avenue and East 5th Street just before 7:30 p.m. and arrived to find the girl unresponsive in the roadway.

Police immediately began CPR until medics from Saint Paul Fire arrived and took over care. The girl was transported to Regions Hospital, where her condition remains critical.
Initial information indicates the driver, an adult male, remained at the scene and cooperated with officers. Investigators said there were no signs of impairment, and the driver was not taken into custody after speaking with the department’s traffic and accident investigation unit.

The crash remains under investigation. Authorities have not said whether speed or other factors may have played a role.
The child’s identity has not yet been released.
