3 Hurt in Plane Crash Near McGregor Airport

Three people were injured in a plane crash near the McGregor Airport on Sunday afternoon.
The Aitkin County Sheriff’s Office said the crash happened at 4:26 p.m. on Oct. 5 after 911 callers reported a downed plane southeast of the airport.
Deputies, firefighters and medics responded and found the aircraft in a swampy area about a half mile from the runway.

Officials said the Piper PA-28 140 lost power shortly after takeoff and the pilot tried to return to the airport before the crash. One passenger was airlifted for treatment while the two others were taken by ambulance to Riverwood Hospital in Aitkin.
Authorities identified the people onboard as 23-year-old Kaden Brazinsky, of Ham Lake, 22-year-old Wyatt Sherry, of New Richmond, and 23-year-old Jocelyn Erlandson, of Ham Lake. All three were in stable condition as of Sunday night, the sheriff’s office said.
There was also a small dog onboard the plane that ran away from the wreckage, a small Yorkie named Mako. The dog has a brown face and grey body, and anyone with information is asked to call 612-220-5120.

The Aitkin County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by McGregor First Responders, McGregor Fire Department, North Ambulance, Cromwell-Wright Ambulance and the Minnesota State Patrol.
Authorities said the investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
