A Saint Paul man and another person pulled weapons on someone who had arranged a drug deal over Snapchat, threatened to kill that person and took a backpack in Bloomington, according to charges.

Dononvan Denny Brito, 19, faces charges of first-degree aggravated robbery and second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon.

According to the complaint, officers responded to a report of a shot fired in Bloomington at about 5 p.m. on August 24, 2026. The victim told officers they had made plans through Snapchat to meet a person for a drug transaction. When the victim arrived at the meeting spot, two people got into the victim’s car. Both pulled out weapons and threatened to kill the victim, then took the victim’s backpack and punched the victim in the face before leaving the car on foot.

The victim chased after the two, at which point one of them, described as a Hispanic male, fired a round into the ground. The victim stopped chasing them, and 911 was called. The car was swabbed for potential forensic evidence.

Investigators used Snapchat records to determine who the victim had arranged to meet and connected the account to Brito. On August 31, 2026, the victim identified Brito in a photo line-up.

On September 24, 2026, officers executed a search warrant at a hotel room where they believed Brito was staying. Inside, they found Brito and a loaded Glock firearm. A buccal sample was taken from Brito, and forensic testing was pending, the complaint says.

About This Charge

Minnesota distinguishes simple robbery (§ 609.24, up to 10 years) from aggravated robbery (§ 609.245), which the state may charge on either of two independent grounds: being armed with a dangerous weapon (real, simulated or implied), or inflicting bodily harm, with no weapon required. First-degree aggravated robbery carries up to 20 years; second-degree up to 15. Carjacking is charged under § 609.247.
