A man led a deputy through Hitterdal at speeds reaching 80 mph, then fought officers during his arrest, leaving three with minor injuries, according to charges. The pursuit began Sept. 18 after a deputy clocked a driver at 66 mph in a 55-mph zone on the 27000 block of 90th Avenue North in Clay County.
Cody Lee Jacobson, 44, of Hitterdal, is charged with felony fleeing in a motor vehicle, felony fourth-degree assault of a peace officer and gross misdemeanor obstructing legal process.
The deputy turned around and activated his emergency lights, but the driver continued west through Hitterdal without slowing, according to the complaint. With the deputy’s siren sounding, the driver made several turns before heading south on Highway 32 and accelerating to 80 mph.
After about a mile, Jacobson drove through a ditch into a driveway, got out and ran into a residence despite commands to stop. The deputy followed him inside. Jacobson initially refused to come out but eventually calmed down and followed the deputy outside, the complaint says.
When officers told Jacobson he was under arrest, he became aggressive and flailed his body to resist being detained, according to the complaint.
A deputy and a trooper suffered scratches on their arms. The trooper also struck his head on a vehicle, and a sergeant was cut by a broken coffee cup Jacobson was holding. The complaint describes their injuries as minor.
Officers subdued Jacobson and placed him in a patrol car. A vehicle search turned up marijuana, a pipe, rolled marijuana cigarettes and a prescription bottle containing Adderall pills, according to the complaint.
Jacobson was taken to Sanford Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during his arrest. A deputy obtained a warrant through Cass County for blood or urine testing based on Jacobson’s behavior and the items found in the vehicle.
Two blood samples were sent to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. The complaint does not include test results, and the three charges do not include impaired driving.
