A Saint Cloud man forced a woman to drive him and another man around after she returned home from the State Fair, threatened to kill her and others and assaulted her in front of a witness, according to charges.
Abdi Mohamed Dakane, 24, faces charges of kidnapping to commit great bodily harm or terrorize, false imprisonment, two counts of threats of violence and two counts of misdemeanor domestic assault. The complaint says he and the victim are family or household members.
According to the complaint, law enforcement responded on September 5, 2026, after receiving a report of a kidnapping in Waite Park and a separate threats complaint at a Kwik Trip in Saint Cloud. Officers made contact with the victim, who was visibly shaking. She told police she had just returned home from the State Fair and was bringing food to a friend when she saw Dakane and an unidentified man inside her vehicle. The victim said she did not know how Dakane got into her car.

The victim told police Dakane forced her to drive him and the other man around. When they arrived at the friend’s residence, Dakane would not allow the victim to exit the vehicle. The friend came out to get the food, and the victim tried to get her attention, wanting to get out of the car. The victim said Dakane hit her on the right side of her head. He then made her drive to a gas station to buy him Swishers.
According to the victim, Dakane threatened to shoot and kill the employee at the gas station. The group got back into the car, and Dakane continued to threaten the victim, telling her multiple times that he had knives and a gun and would use them. At one point, Dakane told the unidentified man to kill the victim. The victim reported that Dakane took her phone and threatened her during the ordeal.
The friend told police she saw two men in the car with the victim and witnessed Dakane hit her. She tried to get into the vehicle, but Dakane told her to take the food and leave. Dakane also made threats to kill people, including the victim’s brother.
Another witness reported that the friend called her and said the victim had been taken. The friend told this witness that Dakane was in the car and hitting the victim. The second witness advised the friend to call police and said she would follow the victim using a phone tracking app.
The second witness later found the victim’s vehicle at the Kwik Trip and called the victim, saying the victim’s brother was looking for her. She heard Dakane yelling and telling the victim to drive, and followed the vehicle until Dakane got out and fled the area.
A gas station employee told police that two men and a woman came into the store, and one of the men, identified as Dakane, became upset when asked for ID to buy cigars. The employee saw what appeared to be a handgun in Dakane’s waistband. Dakane threatened to kill the employee, saying things like, “I can shoot you, I already have two bodies,” and claimed he had killed before and would do so again.
Dakane threw a box of donuts at the employee, but missed. The unidentified man paid for the Swishers, and the victim tried to pay for the donuts but was unable to complete the transaction. The three then left the store.
Surveillance video from the gas station corroborated the accounts of the victim and the employee. The next day, law enforcement located Dakane walking in Waite Park and found multiple knives in his backpack. The charges were filed Wednesday, September 9.

A conviction carries up to 20 years in prison when the victim is released in a safe place without great bodily harm, and up to 40 years when those mitigating conditions are absent.
