A Hastings man charged in the death of a Bloomington man during a drug transaction last year was convicted of second-degree murder at a jury trial and sentenced to 150 months in prison, according to Hennepin County District Court records.
Lamont Eugene Williams, who was 21 when he was arrested, was found guilty of second-degree murder without intent while committing a felony, the sole count in the case. The register shows jury selection began Monday, January 12, the trial ran over six court days from Wednesday, January 14, and the verdict was filed Friday, January 23.
At sentencing on Tuesday, February 24, the court committed Williams to the commissioner of corrections for 150 months, about 12.5 years, at the Minnesota Correctional Facility in St. Cloud, with credit for 40 days already served. The court also ordered him to provide a DNA sample, imposed a lifetime ban on possessing firearms, ammunition or explosives and reserved restitution. The district court case is closed.
A notice of appeal was filed on Tuesday, May 26, and the register shows transcript requests and court reporter certificates filed with the appellate court through early July.
Williams was charged in March 2025 after Bloomington police found a man severely injured in the roadway on the 8300 block of 11th Avenue South on Thursday, March 6, 2025. The man was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Family members identified him as Alexif Loeza Galvan and told officers he had planned to meet a man he called “Monty,” later identified as Williams, to sell marijuana shortly before he was found.
