Wright County deputies are actively searching for a man in Waverly after a pursuit that began earlier this morning in Hennepin County ended with the suspect abandoning a stolen vehicle and fleeing on foot.
West Hennepin Public Safety notified the Wright County Sheriff’s Office at about 7:45 a.m. that a pursuit had been initiated in Hennepin County and the suspect vehicle had entered Wright County on Highway 12 in the city of Delano, according to the sheriff’s office.
The vehicle had been reported stolen and the suspect failed to stop for law enforcement in Hennepin County.

West Hennepin deputies discontinued the pursuit when the suspect crossed into Wright County. A short time later, citizens reported seeing the suspect driving recklessly through Delano, continuing into Montrose and then into Waverly.
The suspect reportedly abandoned the stolen vehicle in Waverly and was seen on foot in the area.
Wright County deputies, including a K9 unit and the department’s drone team, were dispatched around 8:10 a.m to the area along Highway 12 in Waverly to assist in the search. The suspect was identified through an alert from the Minneapolis Police Department in connection with a reported domestic assault involving a firearm, though he has not yet been officially named.

Humphrey Elementary School was placed into “secure” mode as a precaution, the sheriff’s office said.
The suspect is reported as a white male, about 5’11” and 230 pounds, last seen wearing a red hooded sweatshirt. The sheriff’s office asked the public to avoid the area near the 300 block of Atlantic Avenue due to the possibility of the suspect being in possession of a firearm.
Anyone who sees the suspect should not approach and instead call 911 or the Wright County Sheriff’s Office immediately.
