A 23-year-old Minneapolis man has been arrested on suspicion of criminal vehicular homicide after he struck and killed a bicyclist on Hiawatha Avenue early Monday, according to police.

Diallo Roy James Greer was driving a Ford Edge south on Hiawatha Avenue around 3 a.m. when he allegedly struck the bicyclist near East 35th Street, police said.

Officers from the Third Precinct responded to the intersection and found an unconscious man in his 50s with apparent life-threatening injuries lying in the roadway. Officers provided immediate medical aid, including CPR, and the man was taken to Hennepin Healthcare, where he later died. Police have not yet released his name.

Greer was taken into custody and transported to Hennepin Healthcare, where a search warrant for evidence collection was carried out. He was booked into the Hennepin County Jail around 5:45 a.m. Monday and police said Greer is also suspected of driving under the influence. He is being held without bail as of publication.

Minneapolis police forensic scientists and a traffic investigator processed the scene and collected evidence.

The crash remains under investigation.
