A Minneapolis predatory offender is charged with drug distribution after a traffic stop last week turned up a loaded handgun and multiple bags of meth, cocaine and fentanyl in his vehicle, according to a criminal complaint.

Daquan Williams, 44, is charged in Hennepin County with second-degree drug sale, third-degree drug possession, third-degree drug sale, felon in possession of a firearm and two counts of fifth-degree drug possession.

On April 9, Minneapolis police were running a focused enforcement detail in the Third Precinct area when an officer monitoring a milestone camera recognized Williams. Police confirmed his driving status was revoked.

Officers located Williams driving a maroon Chevrolet Suburban westbound on East Lake Street from 5th Avenue South and stopped the vehicle near East Lake Street and Clinton Avenue after it used a red-painted bus lane to pass another vehicle.

As officers approached the vehicle, Williams told them “My bad dude.” When police got to his window, he said, “My bad dude, I’m trying to get to this mothaf***a right here.” When asked his name, he told officers it was Emmet. Officers told him he wasn’t supposed to be driving with a revoked license and Williams claimed he didn’t know that.

An officer on the passenger side of the vehicle saw narcotics in plain view, believed to be fentanyl. Police then arrested Williams. Once in handcuffs, officers found a loaded 9mm Smith and Wesson SD9 VE in his waistband, with a magazine inserted and one round in the chamber.

A search of the open center console area turned up eight separate bags of drugs, a small digital scale and a used glass pipe. The bags contained about half an ounce of meth, about a quarter-ounce of cocaine and about 0.9 grams of fentanyl. Officers also found two cell phones in the vehicle.

Court records show Williams was convicted in 2023 of felon in possession of a firearm and felony domestic assault, both in Hennepin County. He was also convicted in 2023 of fifth-degree criminal sexual conduct, requiring him to register as a predatory offender under Minnesota law. Williams has prior felony convictions for violating no-contact orders in Ramsey County dating to at least 2011.

Williams was released from the Hennepin County Jail on April 10 on a time-expiration hold and has an active arrest warrant as of April 13.

The second-degree drug sale charge carries a mandatory minimum of three years in prison and a maximum of 25 years. The felon-in-possession count carries a mandatory minimum of five years.
