An 80-year-old woman died Friday afternoon after her car was struck on Highway 61 in Saint Paul Park as she pulled into traffic from the right shoulder.
The crash happened just after noon on northbound Highway 61 near 70th Avenue in Washington County, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
Sandra Lee Brunell, 80, of South Saint Paul, was driving a 2001 Mitsubishi Mirage and had entered the northbound lane of traffic from the right shoulder when a 2016 BMW 328 driven by Mark Steven Martell, 71, of Roseville, struck her vehicle. Brunell was pronounced dead at the scene.
Martell was taken by Cottage Grove EMS to Regions Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Both drivers were wearing seat belts and alcohol is not suspected as a factor in the crash.

The road was dry at the time and the State Patrol is handling the investigation and crash reconstruction work.
Cottage Grove police and fire assisted at the scene Friday.
