The officer initiated a traffic stop, and the truck pulled over in the 1100 block of 8th Avenue North. As the officer approached the vehicle, the driver threw an item out of the passenger-side window and then fled the traffic stop at a high rate of speed.
By the time the officer returned to his squad, the truck was no longer in sight. No pursuit was initiated by the officer.
The officer searched the area where the object was thrown and found a firearm. While securing the weapon, dispatch aired a report of a crash in the 1300 block of 10th Avenue North.
Responding officers arrived and determined that the same truck had fled the earlier stop, continued north on 10th Avenue North at a high speed, and collided with a westbound car near 13th Street North. The truck t-boned the vehicle in the intersection.
