Two people were found dead inside a Mounds View townhome Sunday evening after officers responded to a welfare check.
Given the apparent trauma and lack of response from the man, officers forced entry into the home to check for additional victims. Inside, they discovered another person deceased.
Officers secured the scene and requested assistance from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension to process the residence and collect evidence. A handgun was recovered inside the home and investigators later confirmed that both victims sustained gunshot wounds.
Crime scene tape was strung across a portion of the driveway and garages in the residential complex as multiple squad cars remained on scene into the evening.
Police say based on information so far, there’s no indication of an ongoing threat to the public and the case remains under active investigation.
