Officers arrived within minutes and found the man in a nearby parking lot. According to initial info, he was armed with a handgun when a Plymouth officer confronted him. During that encounter, the officer fired his service weapon and struck him. Additional officers moved in, detained the man and began first aid while paramedics were on the way. He was taken to North Memorial Health in Robbinsdale and is reported to be in stable condition as of publication.
The department says the officer was not injured and will be placed on critical incident leave, which is standard after any officer-involved shooting. Officials have not released the officer’s name or the man’s name, and it’s unclear why the man was at the residence or what led to the confrontation in the parking lot.
Investigators with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are now handling the case. The agency will review body camera footage, interview those involved and determine what led to the shooting.
