A man was killed and three others hurt late Tuesday night when a fight inside a downtown Minneapolis bar escalated to gunfire.

Police said the gunfire erupted just before 11:40 p.m. on Oct. 7 inside a business on the 400 block of 4th Street South.

Officers arrived to find a large, chaotic crowd involved in fights and called for additional help. Additional Minneapolis Police officers, along with Hennepin County deputies, responded to the scene.

Inside the bar, officers located a 21-year-old man who had been shot multiple times. They began lifesaving efforts, but he died at the scene. A second man and two women were also found with gunshot wounds. Police said their injuries appeared non-life-threatening and all three were transported to Hennepin Healthcare.

Initial information suggests a fight inside the crowded bar escalated to gunfire, MPD said. Police forensic staff processed the scene for evidence while investigators began interviewing witnesses.

One man was arrested for obstruction but no arrests have been made directly related to the shooting.

“This senseless violence is heartbreaking and unacceptable,” Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said. “An argument inside a crowded bar should never end in gunfire and a loss of life. Our investigators are working to identify everyone involved and hold those responsible accountable. Anyone who knows the identity of the person who pulled the trigger is urged to contact police.”

Authorities are asking anyone with information to call MPD’s tip line at 612-673-5845 or email policetips@minneapolismn.gov. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.CrimeStoppersMN.org.

As of publication, investigators continue to interview witnesses and review evidence. No suspects have been identified or charged and the identities of those shot have not been released.
