Officers arrived to find an adult male victim who was not conscious and not breathing. Saint Paul Fire medics performed CPR and other life-saving measures before transporting him to Regions Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

The driver, who has been identified only as an adult male, stayed at the scene and called 911. Investigators said he showed no signs of impairment and cooperated with officers.

The man told police he had been driving westbound on Maryland Avenue through the intersection at Clarence Street when he reportedly didn’t see the pedestrian and accidentally struck him.
