Fire crews worked to free the pickup driver, who still remained trapped in the vehicle around 10:30 a.m. He was eventually extricated and flown to HCMC by about 10:45 a.m.
The Minnesota State Patrol says Anthony Gary Simones, 22, of Northfield, was driving a 2012 Ford F-150 northbound on Highway 3 when the driver of a 2016 Cascadia tractor-trailer semi entered the intersection while eastbound on 280th Street West, striking the pickup.
Authorities said Simones was wearing a seat belt and airbags deployed. He suffered injuries described as non-life threatening and was taken to Hennepin Healthcare for treatment. EMS radio dispatches earlier reported he suffered severe lower-extremity injuries.

The semi driver, Abdirahman Hassan Ismail, 45, of Schuyler, Neb., was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. Authorities said alcohol is not suspected as a factor in the crash.
Road conditions were reported to be dry at the time of the collision. The Dakota County Sheriff’s Office, Northfield Fire and EMS and North Memorial Flight assisted at the scene.
State troopers requested a crash reconstruction response shortly after arriving and the investigation remains ongoing. Major traffic delays were reported during the response and roadway closures.
