Driver Dies After Pickup Hits School Bus Head-on in Andover

 

A pickup driver died early Tuesday after crashing head-on into a school bus in Andover, authorities say.

The Anoka County Sheriff’s Office said the crash happened just before 7 a.m. near 175th Avenue Northwest and Roanoke Street Northwest.

The driver of a pickup truck pulling a trailer was headed northbound on Roanoke Street when he crossed the center line and collided with a southbound bus.

Deputies, Andover firefighters and Allina paramedics arrived within minutes. Life-saving measures were performed on the adult male driver of the pickup, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not yet been released.

The bus, which was carrying five students on their way to Anoka High School, sustained significant front-end damage. The adult female driver and one student were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The four other students were released to their parents at the scene.

The Minnesota State Patrol, Anoka County Sheriff’s Office and the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office are handling the investigation. Authorities have not said whether speed, impairment or other factors may have contributed.

Authorities said no additional information will be available until the investigation progresses.
