A man was shot early Sunday after he walked in on someone stealing from his car in a Brooklyn Park apartment garage, police said.

Officers were sent to an apartment complex on the 6200 block of Louisiana Avenue North at about 12:56 a.m. Oct. 25 after a report of a shooting, the Brooklyn Park Police Department said. By then the man was already on his way to the hospital on his own. A Robbinsdale officer found him along the way.

The man told police he had interrupted someone stealing from his car in the building’s garage. While he was confronting that person, a second suspect shot him, police said. His gunshot wound was not life-threatening.

Both suspects got away, and police said they had little description of them. Officers found evidence of a shooting in the garage, and several other vehicles there had been tampered with.

A police dog tried to track the suspects but did not find them. Officers from New Hope, Crystal and Robbinsdale helped at the scene. No arrests have been announced, and the investigation is ongoing.

Brooklyn Park police are asking anyone with information to send a tip. Tips can be texted by sending BPPD and the tip to 847411.
