Three armed men entered a Minneapolis apartment lounge and demanded property before a man was shot and killed, according to a criminal complaint. The killing happened Feb. 24, and prosecutors charged another man in connection with it in September.
Ismail Abdisalan Barkhad Boqore, 19, of Fridley, is charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder without intent while committing a felony and aiding and abetting first-degree aggravated robbery.
According to the complaint, the victim and a witness went to the Abbott Apartments to meet Abdirahman Khayre, whom the complaint identifies as a separately charged co-defendant.
The witness said Khayre appeared to stall and repeatedly left the lounge. After he returned, three armed men entered and demanded everything the witness and victim had.
Two carried handguns and one had an AR-style rifle, the witness said. The men pointed guns at him and took his two firearms.
The group also demanded a bag the victim was carrying. He resisted, and a fight followed, according to the witness’s account.
The witness said he tried to move toward the victim, but Khayre pulled back the slide of a gun and pointed it at him. The witness fled into the lobby, heard several shots and returned to find the victim wounded.
Police found the victim dead in the lounge. An autopsy determined he had been shot three times.
There was no surveillance camera inside the lounge. Video from other parts of the building corroborated portions of the witness’s account and showed Boqore leaving through a back door with Mohamed Ibrahim, whom the complaint also identifies as separately charged.
Investigators obtained Snapchat records containing photos and videos of the suspects together at the location within hours of the shooting, according to the complaint.
Forensic testing linked four casings from the scene to one of the witness’s stolen guns and two casings to the other. Police had previously held and test-fired both firearms, giving investigators samples for comparison.
During an interview, Boqore admitted being at the scene, according to investigators. The complaint does not describe an admission that he fired the shots.
