A man in Watertown Township pointed a pellet rifle at passing vehicles, shot at cars and threatened to kill a deputy during a tense standoff with law enforcement, according to the complaint.
Montgomery Franklin Jamieson Sr., 36, of Watertown, faces five charges: second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon, two counts of threats of violence, obstructing legal process and fourth-degree damage to property. The charges were filed Friday, August 14 in Carver County District Court.
According to court records, at about 12:20 p.m. on August 13, a man contacted Carver County Dispatch to report that a white male in a “beater” style shirt was shooting a pellet gun at his car from a residence on Highway 25. The reporting party said he drove by the residence again to get the address for 911, at which point the man pointed the pellet gun at him and made an obscene gesture.

The man then moved into the roadway and began pointing the pellet gun at other passing vehicles. A second person also reported similar activity.
A Carver County corporal responded and found a man matching the description walking toward the home. As the man sat down, the corporal saw he was holding a rifle with a scope. The corporal ordered him to put the rifle down, but the man raised the rifle and pointed it at the corporal. The corporal recognized the man as Montgomery Franklin Jamieson Sr. from previous calls.
After Jamieson went inside the residence and refused to come out, a deputy contacted him by phone. Jamieson alternated between talking about various topics and, at one point, told the deputy, “I’m going to kill you.” During this time, Jamieson exited the residence holding a phone in one hand and a rifle in the other.
Deputies observed Jamieson going into the garage, lying in a prone position and aiming at deputies. At other times, he went back inside and was seen pointing the rifle barrel in his mouth. Deputies deployed pepper balls into the residence in an effort to get him to surrender.
Eventually, Jamieson opened a door to the garage and tried to throw something out. Deputies attempted to arrest him, but he physically resisted before being handcuffed.
Deputies found that pellets shot by Jamieson had damaged the windshield and windows of a vehicle in the driveway and another vehicle in a neighboring driveway. Pellets were found inside one of the vehicles. A search warrant at the residence turned up a loaded black Benjamin .177 pellet gun.
A court date has not yet been set.
