According to the victim’s statement, she arrived at the residence after receiving alarming text messages from Powell, who claimed he had harmed himself and left their three children alone. Upon entering, she was immediately assaulted by Powell, who allegedly punched her multiple times, struck her with a broomstick and used a knife handle to hit her. The victim reported that Powell also choked her, causing her to lose vision temporarily, and sexually assaulted her while threatening to kill her. This violent encounter occurred in front of their children.

After the assault, Powell broke the victim’s phone and fled the residence. Officers later tracked his cell phone to his mother’s home in Minneapolis, where he was arrested. During questioning, Powell claimed that the victim had threatened him with a knife and he admitted to engaging in a physical altercation but denied any intent to harm her.

Powell is not currently in custody. A court date has not yet been set.
