A 62-year-old man is facing a felony charge after Maple Grove police say a stolen Boy Scout trailer turned up in his driveway, repainted and with its serial number plate sanded off.
The charge was filed May 6 in Hennepin County District Court.
According to the criminal complaint, Lawrence Alan Randall, of Brooklyn Park, is accused of one count of receiving stolen property, which is a felony. He was charged by summons and remained out of custody as of publication.
On February 7, 2026, Maple Grove police officers responded to a theft report at Maple Grove Lutheran Church, 9251 Elm Creek Blvd. N. A Boy Scout troop leader told officers the troop’s Haulmark trailer, valued at about $7,000, had been stolen from the church parking lot around February 6, 2026.
The trailer was red, marked with Boy Scout Troop 84 logos and was holding the troop’s camping equipment. The lock had been cut off and was on the ground near where the trailer had been parked.

Later that day, a witness who had children in Boy Scout Troop 84, and who had pulled the trailer himself in the past, noticed the distinctive trailer traveling alongside him in Minneapolis. The witness said an extended cab blue pickup truck was pulling it.
Officers found the truck on MnDOT camera surveillance and a social media release by Maple Grove police prompted two more witnesses to come forward said the truck and trailer were in a driveway in Brooklyn Park, which investigators later identified as Randall’s.
When officers went to the home, they found the truck and what appeared to be the same trailer. The Troop 84 markings were gone and the trailer had been painted. Randall told officers several people drive his truck and he did not know who was driving it on the day of the theft. He said he had had the trailer for about a month and a half, that it was not the trailer officers were looking for and that he did not have paperwork for it.

Officers took a closer look. The trailer had identifying dents that matched the troop’s trailer and smelled of fresh paint. Officers could see the troop’s red paint on the roof. The plate where the serial number had been was sanded off and then taped over on the tongue of the trailer.
The complaint says Randall told officers he doesn’t give a “f*** about the Scouts” and that he had been sexually assaulted as a Scout. According to the complaint, Randall said “if they don’t go camping, they don’t get r*ped either.”
On February 17, 2026, Randall called police and told them he had recovered the troop’s camping equipment from inside the trailer and dropped it off at the church. Officers went to the church and secured the items. The complaint says $2,653 worth of gear was recovered.
The receiving stolen property charge carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
