A 27-year-old man is charged with two counts of first-degree burglary after he allegedly forced his way into his girlfriend’s Saint Paul home, assaulted her and grabbed a handgun during a domestic disturbance.
The incident happened around 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 25, at a home on the 1600 block of Dieter Street in Saint Paul.
Keviontea Deanique McInnis, of Minneapolis, faces two counts of first-degree burglary in Ramsey County District Court.
According to the criminal complaint, Saint Paul police officers responded to a 911 call from the victim, McInnis’s on-and-off girlfriend of three years who is pregnant with his child. During the call, the woman said “Don’t grab my...” before the call was disconnected.

Officers arrived and met with the victim, who reported McInnis was intoxicated and refusing to leave her home. She said McInnis had forced his way inside after she asked him to leave. He allegedly grabbed her and shook her, threw her cell phone against the sink and threatened to kill himself and grab her gun, the complaint states.
McInnis then ran to the basement, grabbed the victim’s Kimber Micro 9mm handgun and pointed it at his own head. The victim fled the home and called 911.
Officers observed the victim had dried blood on her lower lip and a scratch on her left forearm.
McInnis exited the home and was taken into custody. Officers recovered the Kimber Micro 9mm handgun. The chamber was empty but the magazine contained ammunition.
After being read his Miranda rights, McInnis agreed to speak with officers. He said the two had been arguing about infidelity and that he had recently lost his job and had been drinking. He said he planned to sleep in his car. McInnis claimed the victim had waved the gun at him in the past and said he grabbed it to put it in the closet. He said they “tussled” over the handgun and he slipped and hit his lip on the table.
If convicted of first-degree burglary, McInnis faces up to 20 years in prison on each count. His next court appearance is set for June 24.
