A 19-year-old Las Vegas man has pleaded guilty to second-degree intentional murder for shooting and killing a man outside a south Minneapolis bar last summer.
The case, which drew widespread community attention and ”Justice for Juice” signs across the neighborhood, was resolved through a plea deal connected to other pending cases against the defendant.
Dijon Jacquez Davis pleaded guilty in Hennepin County District Court on Monday. His formal sentencing is scheduled for May 7.
The criminal complaint says officers were dispatched to the area of Lyndale Avenue South and West Franklin Avenue around 2:35 a.m. on July 25, 2025, after a report of a person shot and lying on the ground. Officers found Justin Marshall, known as “Juice,” lying on his back in the gutter near the bus stop next to Mortimers on Lyndale Avenue South. He was unresponsive and pale. Officers performed CPR until Minneapolis firefighters arrived. Marshall was transported to Hennepin Healthcare, where he died.

Surveillance cameras captured the sequence leading up to the shooting. A light blue Toyota Camry driven by Davis traveled eastbound on Lyndale Avenue around 2:30 a.m., passed through the intersection and made a U-turn. The vehicle stopped, and Marshall ran up to the passenger side.
The two appeared to exchange words before Davis started to pull away. Marshall turned back toward Mortimers. Davis then made another U-turn, stopped and got out of the car. He chased Marshall around a nearby bus shelter. Cameras from a nearby building showed Marshall running around the corner to the shelter with Davis right behind him. Marshall fell to the ground and Davis ran back to the vehicle and fled. He was seen holding a gun in his left hand.
Investigators recovered six 9mm cartridge casings from the scene. An autopsy performed at the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office determined Marshall’s cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds. He had six gunshot wounds to the right side of the back, the lower back, the buttocks, the right abdomen, the right arm and the right forearm. The manner of death was ruled homicide.

According to the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office, investigators developed Davis as a suspect through work on other cases. As part of plea negotiations on those cases, which were set for trial, Davis agreed to speak with investigators. The county attorney’s office said it ensured Davis provided facts only the shooter would know before filing the complaint.
In a voluntary statement, Davis admitted he had a verbal altercation with Marshall. He said he acted like he was driving away, then stopped, got out of the car and chased Marshall around the bus shelter. Davis said he shot Marshall multiple times with a Ruger 9mm. He wasn’t sure how many times he fired but thought it was six.
Davis has other pending cases that are expected to be resolved through a related plea deal after sentencing.
“Justice for Juice” signs remain visible in south Minneapolis more than nine months after the shooting.
Davis was being held on $1,000,000 bail and second-degree intentional murder carries a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison.
