On July 25, 2025, at approximately 2:34 A.M., officers were dispatched to the area of Lyndale Avenue South and Franklin Avenue West in Minneapolis, Hennepin County. Remarks in the call indicated that someone had been shot and was lying on the ground. Upon arrival, officers observed J. M., hereinafter Victim, [NAME REDACTED] in the gutter in front of the bus stop next to Mortimers on Lyndale Avenue South. Victim [NAME REDACTED]. Officers performed CPR until relieved by Minneapolis Fire. Victim was transported to HCMC by ambulance, where he was pronounced deceased.
Milestone cameras in the area show the suspect vehicle, a light blue Toyota Camry, traveling eastbound on Lyndale Avenue at approximately 2:30 A.M. After going through the intersection, the vehicle is observed making a U-Turn and heading back westbound. The vehicle stops at the intersection and Victim is seen running up to the passenger side of the vehicle. The driver, who is the sole occupant, and Victim appear to exchange words before the vehicle begins to pull away and drive into the intersection.
As this happens, Victim is seen turning back and walking towards Mortimers. The driver, later identified as DIJON JACQUEZ DAVIS, Defendant herein, then makes a U-Turn, stops, and gets out of the vehicle. Defendant leans over the open driver’s side door, then can be seen running around the vehicle to the south. Another camera from a nearby building shows Victim running around the corner to a nearby bus shelter. Defendant runs after Victim and chases him around the bus shelter. Victim can be seen falling to the ground and Defendant runs back to the vehicle and flees from the area.
Defendant can be seen holding a gun in his left hand. Six 9 mm discharged cartridge casings were recovered from the scene. An autopsy was performed on Victim at the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office. Victim’s cause of death was determined to be multiple gunshot wounds and manner of death was homicide. Victim had a total of six gunshot wounds, including a gunshot wound to the right side of the back, a gunshot wound to the lower back, a gunshot wound to the buttocks, a gunshot wound to the right abdomen, a gunshot wound to the right arm, and a gunshot wound to the right forearm.
In a voluntary statement, Defendant admitted that he had a verbal altercation with Victim. Defendant said that he acted like he was driving away, then stopped, got out of the car, and chased Victim [NAME REDACTED]. Defendant said he shot Victim multiple times with a Ruger 9mm. While Defendant was unsure how many times he shot Victim, [NAME REDACTED] was six times.
