1 Dead, 1 Injured in Stolen Motorcycle Crash

Minneapolis police say one man is dead and another man suffering serious injuries after crashing a stolen motorcycle near the intersection of Hiawatha Ave. & E. 26th St. around 1:45 a.m., Tuesday morning.

Police say their preliminary investigation shows that the motorcyclist was traveling westbound on E. 26th St., crossing Hiawatha when he went through a red light and struck another vehicle in the intersection.

Both occupants of the motorcycle were ejected. Paramedics located a man in his 40s who was dead at the scene and another man in his late 30s who was suffering from serious injuries. He was transported to Hennepin Healthcare by paramedics and an update on his condition is not yet available. The driver of the other vehicle was not injured.

Officers later found that the motorcycle had been reported stolen and a firearm was located at the scene.

The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating the fatal crash. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner is expected to release the deceased man’s name in the coming days.
