Investigators say evidence showed the victim’s roommate at the time, 35-year-old Stuart William Hanmer, was responsible for poisoning him with the substance.

The suspect has been identified as 42-year-old George Washington Harris of Saint Cloud. Police say he has not yet been located. Harris is described as 5 feet 11 inches tall, about 200 pounds, with lettering tattooed on his neck.

A Stearns County judge has sentenced a man to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the premeditated killing of a woman in Waite Park last year.

Police were dispatched just before 3:45 p.m. to a reported domestic dispute on the 600 block of 8th Avenue North. A woman told dispatchers that a man had threatened her and lunged at her with his fists raised.

Dispatchers received a 911 call at 5:47 p.m. reporting that someone had become pinned under a large corn planter. The caller stated they were at an address on County Road 201 in North Fork Township, about four miles from the city.

Officers were called to a property in the 25000 block of County Road 74 on Saturday, April 26, after the landowner reported finding what appeared to be skeletal remains.

A man inside the residence was transported to the hospital by a private party before officers arrived. Investigators determined he had been assaulted prior to the fire and had a severe head injury.

Two Waite Park police officers were already near the home on an unrelated incident when they heard gunfire just after 2 p.m. on April 12. Officers immediately notified Stearns County Dispatch and moved toward the residence.

When officers arrived, they found two children who had managed to exit the home safely and without injuries. After entering the residence, police discovered two deceased adults.

A former federal prison nurse has been indicted for a sexual relationship with an inmate and lying to investigators. The incidents reportedly occurred in April 2024 and prompted an investigation by the Bureau of Prisons.
