The charges stem from an incident that occurred around 4:07 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16, when Rochester police were called to a report of gunfire outside a residence on 18 ½ Avenue Northwest.
Officers arrived to find an adult male victim lying on a concrete path outside the building with gunshot wounds to his legs. Witnesses told police they saw a black sedan circling the area, making multiple U-turns before stopping near the home. One woman reported hearing four gunshots before the vehicle sped away, hitting a curb in the process. Another man told officers he saw the victim step outside before Campbell drove past him twice and then opened fire.
According to the criminal complaint, the victim’s girlfriend identified Campbell as the shooter. She told investigators that Campbell had been contacting her throughout the night, asking about a woman he shares a child with. Campbell allegedly called her on FaceTime and spoke briefly with the victim before the victim hung up. Campbell continued sending messages, which angered the victim, who began responding to him directly. The victim later went outside after reportedly saying Campbell was coming over. Moments later, gunfire erupted.

The victim was rushed to the hospital, where he underwent surgery and had bullets removed from his leg. Investigators recovered a shell casing near the scene and later found Campbell’s black Ford Fusion, which contained two 9mm casings and personal paperwork linking him to the vehicle. A search of a residence tied to Campbell also turned up a Glock handgun case.
Campbell made an initial court appearance on Thursday, where bail was set at $1 million. He faces up to 10 years in prison on the most serious charge.
