14-year-old Dies, 13-year-old Critically Hurt in Saint Paul Scooter Crash
A 14-year-old boy died and a 13-year-old boy was critically injured after the motorized scooter they were riding was struck by a pickup truck in Saint Paul on Tuesday morning.
Officers were dispatched just before 8:50 a.m. to the intersection of George Street West and Ohio Street, where they found both boys seriously injured after the crash.

Saint Paul Fire medics responded and transported them to Regions Hospital. The 14-year-old, who was driving the scooter, was later pronounced dead. The 13-year-old passenger remains hospitalized with life-threatening injuries as of Tuesday afternoon.

Initial information from police indicates the scooter entered the intersection after running a stop sign and was then hit by the pickup. The driver of the truck stayed on scene, showed no signs of impairment and is cooperating with the investigation.
The Saint Paul Police Department’s Traffic and Pedestrian Safety Unit is leading the investigation. Authorities have not yet released the names of those involved.
